Upgrading to the BigFix Enterprise Suite 7.0
Outdated versions of the BES Server, BES Console, BES Relay, and BES Client can be upgraded by using a Fixlet message in the BES Support site. If, for whatever reason, you wish to upgrade some or all of the BES components manually, please follow the instructions below.
Note: For upgrading versions of BES prior to BES 6.0, please refer to the following archives:http://support.bigfix.com/bes/install/besdownloads.html
You must upgrade the BES Server and all the BES Consoles at the same time. Other BES components (the BES Clients and the BES Relays) will work with the upgraded version of the BES Server without problems. However, it is recommended that you upgrade the BES Clients and BES Relays whenever possible to take advantage of the new functionality.
When new versions of BES are released, the upgrade Fixlet messages are released in a planned roll-out process so it may take a few days before the upgrade Fixlet messages become relevant immediately after the upgrade. At first you will see a Fixlet message relevant to upgrade your BES Server and BES Consoles. After the BES Server is upgraded, Fixlet messages to upgrade the BES Clients and BES Relays will become relevant the next time the BES Clients register (the default registration period is once every 6 hours).
Notes:
- Make sure that all BES Consoles are closed before you begin the upgrade process.
- BES Clients version 3.1 and earlier will no longer work with the BES Server version 7.0. Please upgrade your BES 3.1 Clients to a newer version before upgrading your BES Server to 7.0.
- It is recommended that you plan to upgrade all of your BES Clients of version less than 5.0.
- It is recommended that you backup your BES Server and database before upgrading to BES 7.0.
