BES Unix, Linux, and Mac Clients
All mastheads on this page are Evaluation mastheads and should only be used on Evaluation licenses of BES. If you have a Production licenses of BES, please contact your sales rep to obtain Production mastheads.

SUSE Linux (32-bit)
- Download the SUSE 8.0, 9.0, and 10.0 BES Client RPM (x86) (7.1.1.315)
SUSE (32-bit) Fixlet Content
- To get the Fixlet content for the SUSE BES Agent, you will need to subscribe your BES Server to the appropriate Fixlet site. To subscribe to a new Fixlet site, go to a computer with the BES Console installed.
- Download the appropriate masthead (Note: This masthead is for Evaluation licenses only.)
- When prompted to open or save the file, click "Open" and this will automatically open the BES Console.
- Log into the BES Console with your username/password.
- Once logged in, the BES Console will ask if you wish to subscribe to the Patches for SUSE Linux Enterprise Fixlet site, click OK.
- Type in your private key password and click OK.
- After the BES Console subscribes to the site, it should automatically start gathering new Fixlet messages from the site.

SUSE (32-bit) Installation Instructions
- Download the corresponding BES Client RPM file to the SUSE computer.
- Install the RPM by running the command rpm -ivh <path to BES Client RPM>.
- Copy your actionsite masthead to the Linux BES Client computer (the masthead contains configuration, license, and security information). The action site masthead (actionsite.afxm) can be found in your BES Installation folders (by default they are placed under C:\BES Installers). If the masthead is not named "actionsite.afxm, rename it to "actionsite.afxm" and place it on the computer at the following location: /etc/opt/BESClient/actionsite.afxm.
Note: In BES 4.0 and later, the masthead file for each BES Server is downloadable at http://servername:port/masthead/masthead.afxm (example: http://bes.bigfix.com:52311/masthead/masthead.afxm).
- Start the BES Client by running the command /etc/init.d/BESClient-7.1.1.315 start.

Solaris- Download Solaris 7 BES Client PKG (Sparc) (7.1.1.315)

(Note: This BES Client is for Intel based Solaris 10, not Sparc).
Solaris Installation Instructions
- Download the corresponding BES Client package file to the Solaris computer.
- Install the PKG by running the command pkgadd -d <path to BES Client package file>.
- Copy your actionsite masthead to the Solaris BES Client computer (the masthead contains configuration, license, and security information). The action site masthead (actionsite.afxm) can be found in your BES Installation folders (by default they are placed under C:\BES Installers). If the masthead is not named "actionsite.afxm, rename it to "actionsite.afxm" and place it on the computer at the following location: /etc/opt/BESClient/actionsite.afxm.
Note: In BES 4.0 and later, the masthead file for each BES Server is downloadable at http://servername:port/masthead/masthead.afxm (example: http://bes.bigfix.com:52311/masthead/masthead.afxm). - Start the BES Client by running the command /etc/init.d/BESClient start.
Note: All Solaris agents require package SUNWlibC be installed. In addition, earlier revisions of Solaris did not include functions required for proper running of the BES Client in the libC libraries, so the libC libraries for Solaris 7 and Solaris 8 must be patched to a sufficient level.
For Solaris 7, the latest version of patch 106327 must be installed:

Solaris Fixlet Content
- To get the Fixlet content for the Solaris BES Agent, you will need to subscribe your BES Server to the appropriate Fixlet site. To subscribe to a new Fixlet site, go to a computer with the BES Console installed.
- Download the Solaris Evaluation masthead. (Note: This masthead is for Evaluation licenses only.)
- When prompted to open or save the file, click "Open" and this will automatically open the BES Console.
- Log into the BES Console with your username/password.
- Once logged in, the BES Console will ask if you wish to subscribe to the Patches for Solaris Fixlet site, click OK.
- Type in your private key password and click OK.
- After the BES Console subscribes to the site, it should automatically start gathering new Fixlet messages from the site.
HP-UX
- Download HP-UX 11.00/11.11/11.23 BES Client depot (7.1.1.315)
HP-UX PA-RISC Installation Instructions
- Download and copy the corresponding BES Client package file (BESAgent-7.1.1.315.pa-risc_hpux11.0.depot) to the HP-UX computer (must be PA-RISC system).
- Run the following command:
/usr/sbin/swinstall -s HOSTNAME:/path/BESAgent-7.1.1.315.pa-risc_hpux11.0.depot BESAgent
where HOSTNAME is the name of the system which the agent is being installed, and /path/ is the path to the agent installation source - Copy your actionsite masthead to the HP-UX BES Client computer (the masthead contains configuration, license, and security information). HP-UX Itanium Installation Instructions
- Download and copy the corresponding BES Client package file (BESAgent-7.1.1.315.pa-risc_hpux11.0.depot) to the HP-UX computer (must be Itanium system).
- Run the following command:
/usr/sbin/swinstall -x "allow_incompatible=true" -s HOSTNAME:path/BESAgent-7.1.1.315.pa-risc_hpux11.0.depot BESAgent @hp1123

Mac
- Download Mac OS X 10.3, OS X 10.4, and OS X 10.5 Workstation agent disk image (7.1.2.56)
Mac Installation Instructions
- Download the corresponding BES Client package file to the Mac computer.
- Open the disk image by double clicking the BESAgent-7.1.2.56_MacOSX.dmg file to mount it.
- Run the BESAgent Installer Builder. The Installer Builder will request the masthead file which is available by using the BESAdmin tool on the BES Server computer ("Export Masthead" functionality). The file must be named "actionsite.afxm" for the installation to work properly.
- After running through the Installer Builder it will ask you where to save the Mac Installer dmg file you will use to install the MAC BESAgent.
- Once the disk image has been created, mount it and simply double click the BESAgent-7.1.2.56_MacOSX.pkg to launch the installer.
Mac Fixlet Content
- To get the Fixlet content for the Mac BES Agent, you will need to subscribe your BES Server to the appropriate Fixlet site. To subscribe to a new Fixlet site, go to a computer with the BES Console installed.
- Download the Mac Evaluation masthead. (Note: This masthead is for Evaluation licenses only.)
- When prompted to open or save the file, click "Open" and this will automatically open the BES Console.
- Log into the BES Console with your username/password.
- Once logged in, the BES Console will ask if you wish to subscribe to the Patches for Mac OS X Fixlet site, click OK.
- Type in your private key password and click OK.
- After the BES Console subscribes to the site, it should automatically start gathering new Fixlet messages from the site.
AIX
- Download IBM AIX 5.1, 5.2, or 5.3 agent (7.1.5.02)
AIX Installation Instructions
- Download the corresponding BES Client package file to the IBM AIX computer.
- Copy the BESAgent to the IBM AIX computer.
- Run the following command: installp -agqYXd ./BESAgent-7.1.5.02.ppc_aix51.pkg BESClient.
- Copy the masthead file to /etc/opt/BESClient/actionsite.afxm.
- Run the following command: /etc/rc.d/rc2.d/SBESClientd start.
AIX Fixlet Content
- To get the Fixlet content for the AIX BES Agent, you will need to subscribe your BES Server to the appropriate Fixlet site. To subscribe to a new Fixlet site, go to a computer with the BES Console installed.
- Download the AIX Evaluation masthead: (Note: This masthead is for Evaluation licenses only.)
- When prompted to open or save the file, click "Open" and this will automatically open the BES Console.
- Log into the BES Console with your username/password.
- Once logged in, the BES Console will ask if you wish to subscribe to the Patches for AIX Fixlet site, click OK.
- Type in your private key password and click OK.
- After the BES Console subscribes to the site, it should automatically start gathering new Fixlet messages from the site.
