BigFix Platform Support Policy

General Support Policy

BigFix will provide full support for all product components on all supported platforms. Support details are listed in your BigFix contract.

BigFix Clients

  • Windows NT SP6a/95/98/Me/2000/XP/2003 with IE 4.01+ (x86) -- All BigFix Client versions
  • Windows 2003/XP (x64)(including Windows 2003 R2) -- BigFix 5.0+ works on x64, but BigFix 6.0+ provides full support for x64 parts of the file system/registry

BigFix Console

  • Windows 2000/XP/2003 (x86/x64) with IE 5.5/6/7 -- BigFix Console versions less than 7.0.
  • Windows 2000 SP3+/XP/2003/Vista (x86/x64) with IE 6.0 SP1+/7.0 -- BigFix Console version 7.0.
  • Windows 2008 (x86/x64) -- BigFix 7.1+
  • BigFix 7.0+ requires Windows Installer 3.1 (Windows 2000 requires SP3 for Windows Installer 3.1).

BigFix Server

  • Windows 2000 (x86/x64) with SP2+ -- BigFix 4.1-7.2
  • Windows 2003 (x86/x64) with SP2+ -- BigFix 4.1+
  • Windows 2008 (x86/x64) with SP2+ -- BigFix 7.1+

Database

  • SQL Server 2000 with SP4+ -- BigFix 4.1-7.2

  • Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (MSDE)* -- BigFix 4.1-7.2

* MSDE and SQL 2005 Express are not recommended for use in production deployments of BES. See this Knowledge Base Article for more information.

BigFix Relays

Configurations

  • All components on VMWare and Virtual PC (please note performance concerns)
  • Major/minor version of BigFix Server must equal BigFix Console version (i.e., BigFix Console and Server must both be at 6.0.x.x)
  • BigFix Server must have an equivalent or higher major/minor version than the BigFix Relays
  • BigFix Server and BigFix Relays must have an equivalent or higher major/minor version than the BigFix Clients (unless explictly listed above)

Untested Configurations

Untested configurations are platforms, applications, and software configurations that have not been explicitly tested by BigFix. BigFix does NOT provide official support for untested configurations. However, due to similarities with other supported configurations, untested configurations often have no known problems or very limited problems. Sometimes untested configurations will become fully supported if BigFix is able to do full testing and confirm there are no known issues.

BigFix support will answer support questions related to untested configurations, but due to the fact that there has not been extensive testing, BigFix does not recommend using untested configurations on production computers.

BigFix Client

  • Solaris 9 (x86)
  • Gentoo
  • Debian
  • BigFix Client UI with IE 4.0

BigFix Console

  • Windows 2000 with IE 5.0 and BigFix Console 6.0 (Beginning with BigFix Console 7.0 the minimum browser required is IE 6.0).
  • Windows Vista and BigFix Console 6.0.

Configurations

  • BigFix Client 6.0 with a BigFix 5.1 Server (except Windows Vista BigFix 6.0 clients are supported for BigFix 5.1 Servers)

Unupported Configurations

Not supported configurations are known not to work or have serious issues. BigFix will not be able assist with support calls related to unsupported configurations. The Support response will be to change the configuration to a supported configuration.

Configurations

  • All BigFix components version 5.0 and earlier.
  • BigFix 6.0 Relays with a BigFix 5.1 Server.
  • Oracle databases for the BigFix Server database.
  • Operating systems families not listed above.
