BES Console Context Menu Wake-On LAN

Starting with BES 6.0, you can send a wake-on LAN magic packet to computers to wake them up.

Additional Wake-on-LAN functionality is available in the "BES Power Management" site. Contact your sales representative for more information.

Simply follow the directions below to enable this functionality:

  1. Download bes-wol.zip to your console computer
  2. Unzip the contents of the zip file (bes-wol.exe, bes-wol.reg, and bes-wol.besrp) on your console computer.
  3. Copy bes-wol.exe to your console directory. By default, this directory is C:\Program Files\BigFix Enterprise\BES Console\.
  4. Double-click on bes-wol.reg to merge the settings for the WOL context-menu item into your registry.
  5. Double-click on bes-wol.besrp to add a WOL property to your BES deployment.
  6. As computers report in on this property, you can right-click on them in the "Computers" tab and select "Wake-On LAN" to attempt to wake them.
Note that the console computer must be able to send a magic packet to the subnet of the target computer for that computer to wake up.
