BES Console System Requirements
BES Consoles are typically run on workstations and from a Terminal or Citrix server, the information below provides specifications for both configurations. The Hardware Specification values listed are for best performance of the BES Console.
Click here for more information about supported configurations for the BES Console.
BES Console System Specifications
- Windows XP
- Windows 2000
- Windows 2003
- Windows Vista
Supported Operating Systems:
Note: Windows Vista (x86 and 64-Bit) and Windows 2003 64-Bit are only supported for BES 6.0 and above.
Note: BES 7.0 on Windows 2000 requires SP3 and above.
- Internet Explorer 6 and above
- MDAC 2.7 and above
- Office Web Components
- Minimum 1024x768 screen resolution
- High Speed network connection to the BES Server database
- BES 7.0 requires MSXML 6 and Windows Installer 3.1.
Required System Configurations:
BES Console Hardware Specifications
The BES Consoles are typically installed on personal workstations and Terminal or Citrix Servers.
- Users with high-speed network connections (10 mbps+) to the BES Server database can use any computer that meets the requirements below.
- Remote users will typically need to use a Terminal Server or Citrix Server because their network connection will be too slow.
The hardware requirements are based on the number of managed computers, which is the number of computers that a BES Console Operator will see in their BES Console. In most deployments, a BES Console Operator will see a subset of the total number of computers while a Master BES Console Operator will see all of the computers.
Workstation Installations
| Number of Managed Computers | CPU | Memory | Hard Disks (Free Space) |
| < 250 | 1 GHz | 512 MB | 50 MB free |
| 1,000 | 2 GHz | 512 MB | 100 MB free |
| 10,000 | 2-3 GHz | 1 GB | 250 MB free |
| 50,000 | 2-3 GHz - 2 Cores | 2 GB | 1 GB free |
| 100,000 | 2-3 GHz - 2 Cores | 3 GB | 2 GB free |
| > 200,000 | 2-3 GHz - 2-4 Cores | 4 GB | 3 GB free |
Terminal/Citrix Server Installations
The primary constraints for the BES Console are CPU and memory. The memory use of the BES Console goes up with the total number of managed BES Clients.
These configurations assume standard usage patterns for up to 10-20 simultaneous BES Console users:
| Number of BES Agents | CPU | Memory | Hard Disks (Free Space) |
| < 250 | 2-3 GHz - 2 Cores | 2 GB | 1 Raid Array (RAID 5, 10) - 5 GB free |
| 1,000 | 2-3 GHz - 2 Cores | 4 GB | 1 Raid Array (RAID 5, 10) - 10 GB free |
| 10,000 | 2-3 GHz - 4 Cores | 8 GB | 1 Raid Array (RAID 5, 10) - 20 GB free |
| 25,000 | 2-3 GHz - 4 Cores | 8-16 GB | 1 Raid Array (RAID 5, 10) - 40 GB free |
| 100,000 | 2-3 GHz - 4-8 Cores | 16-32 GB | 1 Raid Array (RAID 5, 10) - 80 GB free |
| 200,000 | 2-3 GHz - 8-16 Cores | 16-32 GB | 1 Raid Array (RAID 5, 10) - 150 GB free |
Note: The values above reflect the number of simultaneous BES Consoles running on a single Terminal or Citrix Server which means a single server can support many more BES Console Operators in total depending on BES Console usage patterns. Please consider using more than one Terminal or Citrix Server if you'll have more simultaneous users then the values listed here.
Important Note: For larger deployments that expect over 50,000 BES Agents OR over 50 BES Console operators, please consult a BigFix deployment specialist for specific recommendations on Terminal/Citrix Server configurations
